Navigate a Course

Once you are at a course site, you will be introduced to the course materials via a Course Home Page:

Course

On this page, you will see the following features:

  • Left-side Navigation bar: This will give you an overview of the course and all of its associated materials; it will also help you return/navigate to the materials of interest more quickly and easily.
  • Highlights of This Course: A short description of the key materials for this course and the items you might find most interesting.
  • Header Navigation bar: This will help you navigate back to the list of course sites in OpenCourseWare and to the academic unit description; it also has a Search tool, and several Help features.
  • Course Description: This is a concise description of the topics covered in the course.
  • Graphic: A graphic on the course home page is included to provide an aesthetic representation of the course—typically, it is a graphic taken directly from the course materials.
  • Feedback about the course: OCW is very interested in your feedback and comments. Please provide comments about specific course sites using the feedback email link, located on the right side.
All OCW course site pages follow a common design; however, not all course sites contain every possible element. For example, the Calendar page appears only with some courses:

Course 2

On this page, you will notice that the red arrow on the left-side Navigation bar informs you of the currently selected section. The Calendar is a time-frame representation of the course—it gives valuable information about:
  • How many topics are covered ?
  • The pace at which the topics are taught and reviewed.
  • How other related events in the course, such as exams, assignments, and projects, are incorporated in the teaching and learning process ?
